HOW CAN I HELP?A CERTAIN INDIVIDUAL IN MY LIFE IS AN ALCOHOLIC BUT REFUSES TO ADMIT IT. NOT ONLY DOES S/HE DRINK HEAVY ALCOHOL AND EXCESSIVELY BUT ALSO SPIRITS AND STUFF THAT IS MAKING HIM/HER VERY ILL. S/HE REFUSES TO SEE A DOCTOR AND I NEED TO HELP BUT DONT KNOW HOW. IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE WHO DOES?
Re: HOW CAN I HELP?Too bad you cannot have intervention.
Maybe AA might help or maybe he should be detox. I would ask some of his true friends what they think he should do. He has to want the help first Kieth. Re: Re: HOW CAN I HELP?The only way you can help is through support. Alcoholism is a disease and needs to be treated by those who know what they are doing (therapist, AA.) I think you should get him help whether he wants it or not. If he is an alcoholic then chances are he wont want it. Force him/her, he/she will thank you later. (the bigger the group is thats forcing him/her, the better ur chances.)

Re: Re: Re: HOW CAN I HELP?First, remember you are not alone. Many people feel the way you do and wish they could find relief for the alcoholic. Second, don't feel you are the one who needs to find him help. This person sounds like they are in need of help but if they don't have the willingness to stop drinking, then you need to discontinue your interventions. If they sincerely want to stop drinking, they can call there nearest Alcoholics Anonymous in the Yellow Pages for a meeting. If they need detox services, they can call a telephone number which provides these services.
Third, think about what you want for yourself-because you count too. Think about going to an Alanon Meeting-there are so many out there who feel the way you do. If you don't know your nearest Alanon meeting-a 12 step meeting for those friends and relatives of someone who is or may be an alcoholic then call 1-888-425-2666 for your local Alanon directory. :o) I'll pray for you. Re: HOW CAN I HELP?Have you tried talking to them? Don't make it seem offensive or put them in a hard position, but kindly ask if they are feeling 'woozy' or something. tell them that they might have a problem and be sure to be kind without treating them like a four-year-old. Approach the situation with caution and kindness, not demanding answers.
