urodynamic testing

Post a new topicby OABandIC on Wed Aug 29, 2007 8:06 am

i'm having a complete urodynamics test this afternoon
what does this involve?
can the symptoms of OAB get worse after the testing?
also, how helpful are the results of the test to the doctor in determining treatment options?

Since at this time you already know what it involves. The testing can be very helpful in determining stress incontinence versus urge incontinence, as well as bladder compliance and what type of stress incontinence you have. The right diagnosis leads to the right treatment, Good luck.

i had the testing- the found that my bladder capacity was just less than 2/3 what it should be, but they also found that my diagnosis of OAB was incorrect now the doctor doesn't know what to do. is there a such thing as an allergy that could affect the bladder as the allergic reaction? my urologist now wants to do a cytoscopy because he doesn't know what else to do. we don't think i have IC because i don't have burning pain, it is just like muscle pain would be (i you walked too far). i'm not sure if i want to have this done because i would have to be under general anesthesia. is it worth having it done?

I would definitely have it done, assuming you are in good health your risk of anesthesia is minimal. This may give some answers why your bladder has a low compliance. Also although you might not have classic IC, you may have an IC syndrome, some of the factors not all, that may respond to IC treatments, good luck.

my symptoms are frequency sometimes urgency (but not incontinence). i also have food sensitivities to acidic fruits such as green apples and oranges. what is the difference between IC syndrome and IC?

IC syndrome is ill defined but basically it has some but not all of the finding for IC, like your low compliance and urge and frequency and food sensitivity, You might try the IC diet. Also of note a significant % of people with OAB are able to control their bladder during urodynamics, yielding a negative test, so a trial of anticholinergics wouldn't be a bad idea, good luck

they told me after the test that that could have happenned because they saw some contractions of the bladder, but they weren't significant. to me it felt like my bladder was filling too fast for the muscle to be able to react.

my dad wants me to try a medication that is usually used for depression, but has been proven to have a positive affect on the bladder. i thought that if it would help the bladder, it would be more to help pain or incontinence, not a small capacity, or does it just help in general?
