Should I have breast biopsy??

Post a new topicby flossinkim on Wed Aug 29, 2007 4:36 pm

I recently found a small pea-sized lump on my breast. The doctor also felt it and recommended a mammogram and ultrasound. The results show probable benign cyst. The doctor is recommending another mammo in 6mos and biopsy if I want. I asked what their opinion is and they said it would be up to me. I don't want to overreact and go get a biopsy, but I am worried that it might be wrong to just wait. I do have a personal and family hisotry of cysts....no breast cancer in the family.

It really comes down to how comfortable you are with waiting and wondering. The risk of a biopsy is minimal. If your doctors thought you really needed it they would recommend it. So ultimately the decision is yours, you could always get a second opinion. Good luck.

My daughter recently was having a lot of breast pain where she couldn't stand it. Took a couple of doctors to order a mamogram but we had one done. The two lumps were found and they ordered an ultrsound. That ultrasound showed the two lumps and they suggested waiting 6 mos and coming back for another mamogram. We discussed it and decided on a biopsy since cancer runs rampage in my father's side of the family. No breast cancer but most breast cancer in 85% are found in women who have no family history of breast cancer She was sent to a doctor who said same thing, wait 6 mos but we said no option. So, he ordered a needle biopsy. That doctor could not do it. He said her breasts were too dense to get to the lumps. He stuck her four (4) times and never got the job done. So, now we sit waiting. The doctors don't want to do anything. Her regular doctor yelled at her that they weren't cancer. The specialist is sending her to a breast reduction doctor now. You know if you can have a biopsy done, do it. What do you think a doctor will say if in the 6 mos you come back and there was a change and it turns out to be cancer. He will say oh, guess I was wrong. What do they care. You are only a patient. So, we need to take care of ourselves. I got on here to see if there was anyone who has had this problem with a needle biopsy.

You could consider an open biopsy.
