a few more ? regarding surgery

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 09, 2002 10:37 pm

I am having surgery on my right foot July 9th for taylors buinionette. I will be off work 4 weeks but my doc said I could go back earlier if I could tolerate it. I DO NOT want this surgery done under a local. I want knocked out cold. Next ?, Will I have to use crutches, I really hate them. My podiatrist has said he is going to shorten my second toe because its longer and all my balance is transmitted to my big toes. I do have arthritis in my big toes as well. How much discomfort is this going to cause? I already suffer from alot of chornic pain from anothre injury. How long will it be till I can walk on my foot full weight bearing? I guess I am so nervous. Thanks for any advice.

Your surgeon should really answer these questions be cause he or she knows exactly what technique is going to be used. However, the pain should not be unbearable because you will be given pain medication during and after surgery. You will probably have to use crutches for 1-2 weeks but this varies. The shortening of the second toe will be a minor procedure and you will probably be able to return to work before four weeks. Have a nice day and please write back if you have any further questions.
