Broken screw - three week post-op

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Oct 31, 2002 11:52 pm

I had my right big toe operated on 3 weeks ago. At the one week post-op checkup it was discovered that I had developed an infection around the nail. I was given large doses of antibiotics and the infection was cleared. Today, on my 3-week check it was discovered that the screw had broken and was now pointed somewhat at an upward angle. My doctor was very mistified as he had never seen a screw break so soon after surgery. To make a long story short - My doctor wants to wait another two weeks before deciding on doing the surgery over or letting the screw stay at the present angle. The surgery also included turning the toe inward as it was "slipping' onto the side of it every step I took. I am 59 years old and have an advanced case of Charcot Marie Tooth Disease. My concern is the waiting period. Should there be a two week waiting period? He did say that if I started getting more pain or the site of the screw head starts to ooze more than it is at this time he would have to make a decision at an earlier time.
