bunion surgeryI'm a 38 year old female and I had bunion surgery 22 years ago.
immediately after the cast was removed, I notice that my great toe was twisted(turned in slightly towards the second toe) I was told by the doctor who performed the surgery, that there was nothing that could be done about that. I have a lot of trouble with the foot: (1) numbness in the great toe, (2) great toe touches the inside top of all shoes, (3) bunion surgery site is very thick, (4) foot does not bend - at all, (5) tendons are very tight. (6) I have leg pain but when I massage my leg there is no response to the pressure of the massage. I cannot get to the pain which is caused by the foot. Up until 2 years ago, I was not able to walk without foot and leg fatigue - dragging my foot and leg behind me. I am now a police officer and I am required (and am now able)to run up to 6 miles a session. My foot causes me so much trouble. I would like to know if there is a possibility that I could have the foot redone and are there doctors who specialize in correcting a first surgery. I need to have my foot repaired.I have seen on TV, a bunion surgery performed by two brothers. The patient was up and out hiking in a matter of weeks - and his foot could bend. He had so much mobility! That is what I want. What can I do and what do I do? I need to have my foot fixed. Thank you, TKR
bunion surgeryYou do need to find a podiatric surgeon with exellent training. The best place to look is in urban areas. Make sure the surgeon is board certified in podiatric surgery as well. Your foot can be operated on again and should allow you to have a lot more movement. Good luck and please write back if you have any more questions.
