HELP! ASCUS right after second LEEP!!!

Post a new topicby shenn on Fri May 22, 2009 3:06 pm

I had severe dysplasia five years ago. The cells went from ASCUS to Mild to Severe within three months. I had a Leep done and DNA tested negative for HPV for five years after.
Last year I began a new relationship and was unknowingly exposed to HPV again. It was only Mild Dysplasia when my gyn did the colpo, but she wanted to go ahead with another LEEP because it progressed so fast before. I had the second LEEP done in October and went back six months later in April expecting to hear that I was testing negative for HPV only to hear that it's back again. I am still testing positive for a High Risk type and in April I was at the ASCUS level.
Why did it come back this time? Could there be any chance that I was reinfected with a new strand of the virus from my partner? This may sound paranoid but I had some vague suspicions that he may have been unfaithful... Or, is it more common than I thought for HPV to come back after a LEEP?
I am thirty years old, just finishing my Ph.D., and no children. I am dreading a third LEEP as I am afraid that it will have an effect on my fertility. Any insight would be so much appreciated!

I have read that HPV can come back but if it does it is a different strain. I tested positive for HPV while pregnant with my oldest son (2 1/2) and then again while pregnant with my second son (7 months). The virus went away and then came back. I had a colp. the first time and everything came back fine. The second time it turned out that a tumor grew while I was pregnant. It grew very fast from just HPV and a normal pap. I hope your leep turns out fine. At some point they might suggest more serious treatment if it keeps recurring. Just be thankful it hasn't turned into cancer. If you are concerned about another Leep maybe check out a different doctor.
