i'm 19 and stage 2 ????

Post a new topicby lyssa-brooke on Thu Oct 25, 2007 1:58 am

I've just be told my pap smear came back abnormal, and that i have stage two cervical cancer. no other test have been done. My doctor gave me the injection (starting with G) that prevents cervical cancer and told me i must come back in 2 months and then 4 months for more injections. She also told me to come back in 12 months for a follow up pap smear. I feel like i should have some sort of biopsy or more tests to confirm this. i don't understand why she's giving me the prevention injection if i'm already at stage two. She said there are 6 stages. Isn't 12 months too long for follow up steps. I really feel like she hasn't done her job properly or i'm over reacting.

I think you and your doctor have a misunderstanding. If you had Stage 2 cervical cancer....which can only be diagnosed by a pathologist after a biopsy is done....she would not be having you come back in a year. I would suggest you call her to get clarification on the pap results. And don't hang up until you understand. Any abnormal pap would be at least followed up in 4-6 months depending on what the pap actually showed. An ASCUS (atypical cells of undetermined significance - could be an infection or signs of other things and pap is usually repeated at 4-6 months) My experience has shown that anything other than ASCUS is cause for a colposcopy/biopsy to see if you have dysplasia and what grade it is.
And it all is treatable through various methods.
The injection you had was for Guardasil...the new cervical cancer vaccine. And it only prevents a few of the cancer causing HPV strains and a few of the wart causing ones. BUT it's better than nothing at all. My oldest daughter has had the complete vaccine series with no problems.
Good luck and call your doctor back....you can also have them give you a copy of your pap results so that you can read it, get clarification, and fully understand it.
