Cervical Displasia…Ongoing BattleI was diagnosed with cervical displasia (low grade) at my very first pap smear when I was 17. I was also told I must have HPV which is what caused the ‘pre-cancer’. I began having pap smears every 6 months, some with biopsy, to monitor the displasia. One came back high grade when I was 20. I had cryo to freeze the first few layers of the cervix off…the procedure didn’t hurt, but I was so scared that I cried the whole time. Afterwards, I had 5 normal paps so thought I wa...Read the full article
Re: Cervical Displasia…Ongoing BattleI am sorry to hear your story. I am truly glad you posted it, I now know I am not alone. Today I had to have a biopsy and a colposcopy, I found out I have high risk grade of dysplasia. In a few weeks I go in for a LEEP procedure. My OBGYN did not mention if I have HPV, but I am sure I do. My husbands ex-girlfriend right before me had it. He found out she had it after we were together. We thought I was in the clear when I had a Pap test back in March, my OBGYN said it can take up to 2 years to show up. I am scared and don't know what to fully expect. My e-mail address is [moderator note: e-mail address has been removed], I would like to get to know you better. I am 25, happily married with a daughter she is 14 months old.
Re: Cervical Displasia…Ongoing BattleHello Louise,
I'm sorry to hear about your on going battle. I seem to be facing the same thing as you. When I turned 18 my Pap's started to come back abnormal, off and on. I lived in Canada at the time and they were never really "detailed" in the reasons. You would just get a call saying your PAP came back abnormal and they would need to repeat the test. I have gone back and things were fine but have also gone back only to have to do it 2 more times before the test would come back normal. My last 2 tests (6 months between them) came back fine. I went to a doc in the US for the first time at the start of Dec 2008 (since I now reside in the US) and my test came back as high-grade displasia. I was SO scared!!! At first I didn't know what that meant. I had gone back today to get a colposcopy done. I had never had one done. It was like a normal Pap just with a mircoscope and lasted about 25 mins as opposed to a regular Pap where your whole test from start to finish lasts about 5 mins. They also ended up doing a biopsy. Boy! That did hurt. They told me some women describe it like a menstural cramp. I can say my cramps feel nothing like that. If others have that on a monthly basis... I feel sorry for them. It was like a big pinch. It didn't last long, it was fairly quick, done in a matter of seconds, with no pain at all after that. But it's not something I would want to have done again. I just hope that it's the same thing I had in Canada where it will be low (or whatever it was) and clear up on it's own. I'm just praying that it does not come back as Cancer. I seem to be batteling a lot of medical issues. I've been diagnosed to be a carrier of Leiden Factoc V which is a blood clotting disorder and I am only 24 years old. I am also married and my husband and I have been trying to have a baby since August with no luck. I found out that I am not ovulating. I will be going on fertlity treatment after this is all done and hope it works. I hope they figure out what is causing your abromal pap's to come and go. I'm sorry to hear about your story but I'm also happy that I am not the only one. Keep me posted on how your tests come along
