Diagnosed with Severe DysplasiaI had a Mirena IUD put in December of 2005. After about 6 months, I started having so many negative side effects that I couldn’t stand it anymore. So I had it removed in March of 2007. They did a PAP too and it came back abnormal. So in May they did a biopsy which showed that it was severe dysplasia. The nurse practitioner told me that the IUD has been known to increase a woman’s likelihood of contracting viruses and infections including the HPV that leads to dysplasia. They’ve...Read the full article
Re: Diagnosed with Severe DysplasiaHi,
It is weird that your doctor doesn't want to do the Leep right away. As soon as my Gyno found out I had severe dysplasia, she scheduled an appt right away to have a cold knife cone biopsy done to get rid of it. That was last Sept. and my paps have been ok until last month..I have an appt to see her tomorrow, she wants to discuss my test in person. So I'm kind of nervous to find out what is wrong now.You might want to get checked by another doctor to see what they say and if it's ok to hold off on surgery that long. Also, I've read it's good to eat lots of fruits and vegetables...apparently folic acid works great. I need to try that route myself. Good luck!
Re: Diagnosed with Severe DysplasiaI too have an iud and have been diagnosed w/ dysplasia. My doctor wants me to have a general anesthesia cone biopsy. What symptoms did the iud cause? I swear mine has given me trouble but the doctor says no. Please respond if possible. Thanks!!
Re: Diagnosed with Severe DysplasiaI am almost in the same situation as you. I had an IUD and had it taken out last month because of terrible cramps and extremely heavy periods. It was placed Feb. 2005, I had enough of the bad symptoms. I had a pap and hpv test the week before I had it taken out. The doc that took out the IUD ran my results and informed me that I was hpv positive and he immediately did a colposcopy and biopsy. My results came back as moderate dysplasia and within two weeks I had my LEEP done to remove the abnormal cells and to see how bad the dysplasia is.
My advice to you is to get a second opinion because the abnormal cells can turn cancerous within months to years. You would be safer getting it treated sooner than later. Good luck to you and stay positive.
Re: Diagnosed with Severe DysplasiaI had the Mirena iud put in 3 years ago,and did so dueto sevrebleeding problems not forits birth control. until a ew months ago I have had no complaints. Last week my doc called with my pap results- He said I have squamous cell lesions of the epithelial tisue, with moderate to severe dysplasia- he also said high grade /risk and referred meto a "specialist" immediately- ( my doc used to be a obgyn ) and the "specialist" he referred me to is a obgyn, so Iam confused a bit about that. ANyway- hesaid i would be gettting a colposcopy as well as biopsy, and i was scehduledwithin a week. That appointment is this friay. I am scared, and a little frustrated as I recall my old gyn stating that the mirena caused minimal risk ( hormone effect). I am 35, and I smoke. I would love to hear about someone who went through this with success.
