in 4 years, i've only returned 2 "normal" pap smears. while it sucks to have to be checked every 4 months, i am grateful to have a doctor who is patient and committed, unlike his colleague (who is a woman no less). he discussed my case with this colleague whose sole focus is dysplasia and her reaction and recommendation was that i get lasered or just come in every 6 months because it's pointless to keep checking every 3-4 months as recommended. i was appalled. laser doesn't guarantee that it will go away forever, and can cause problems if you'd like to get pregnant again (cervical scarring & narrowing). it can also cause problems later in your pregnancy (3rd trimester) because your cervix is essentially shortened, as in, bed rest or losing your baby. stay with the program, do whatever you need to do to de-stress, and remain positive that you will clear it.
