My journey

Post a new topicby livingwith on Thu Feb 26, 2009 1:57 pm

I’m 26 years old, turning 27 in early April, and I’ve just been diagnosed with dysplasia. Like most everyone I suppose, my first reaction was one of panic and disbelief. I’ve had Pap smears since the age of 16, when I started oral birth control pills because of horrible cramps from my periods. Every year, I never expected any problems, it was just something I had to have done so I could have my prescription renewed. This last one was different…
I had my pap end of January...Read the full article

Hi septlady64.

I haven't had any discharge, or really any pain with my dysplasia. My husband and I were even scared to have any sex after I was diagnosed, I didn't want to infect him with anything..those as my doctor says, being with him for 3 years, our fluids have rather well mixed (her words, not mine!), so I shouldn't worry too much. There has been some pain during sex, but who knows if it is from the dysplasia, or simply normal...

I have noticed that I have to go to the bathroom more often...I drink a lot of Crystal light during the day, but every 30 minutes seems excessive!

If you are having discharge, perhaps you have some kind of yeast infection as well? My roommate is having some problems as well, though we are not sure it is from dysplasia. She has had chronic yeast infections, as well as abnormal menstrual cycles, they have to do a D&C the same day as my LEEP procedure..

I would talk to your doctor about the discharge, it might be from something like that...good luck with the surgery, I know it is a hard decision to make...thankfully, at this point, I don't have to make that kind of decision yet, since I hope to have children at some point!

Keep us posted, I'll be thining of you :D

Well, when I went to the doctor for my colposcopy, they didn't do any biopsies, mostly because they could already see the dysplasia, and because he couldn't see how far into my cervix it went. He didn't want to put me through that kind of pain more than I needed to, since they would need to cut it out anyway. So, all I've had so far was my Pap smear and the colpscopy. LEEP is next.

I have had my paps every year, like I had said before, mostly just because I am still on the pill for bad cramps, and it helps dim them down a bit...when we're ready for kids, well, that'll be another story :)

How long ago was your biopsy? I remember them telling me that you can have discharge from it, and that it can be odd colors, it's normal as the skins slough off. But if it goes on for (I think) more than 2 weeks, you should check back in with the doctor. Of course, if you are worried about anything, you should be able to call any time, and at least speak with a nurse, to find out what is going on!!!!
