need adviceI am 43 and was told Friday I have severe dysplasia. Dr. recommends a hystorectomy [hysterectomy] because 1 yr. ago my pap was normal. I am concerned about this returning and eventually becoming cancer. Dr. said we could do a cone biopsy but he recommends the removal of my cervix and uteris [uterus].

Re: need adviceI am not a doctor and in no way can give medical advise, however I recommend that you get a second opinion if your at all unconfortable with his recommendation. It seems to me that he is jumping right to hysterectomy without 1st trying all options avaiable (although i am not aware of the severity of your case). I am not sure if he is just looking at your age rather than trying to explore other options. Do not do anything your not fully comfortable with its your body after all (not his).
Re: need adviceI'm with Dina, get a second opinion. Also do some research online. It seems too fast. I was diagnosed with severe dysplasia and I had the cold knife cone done. My gyno said usually that takes care of the problem...but I'm due to see her tomorrow because I guess my last pap wasn't normal. Hope all goes well for you. Let us know what happens.
