Cervical Dysplasia QuestionI was told yesterday I tested positive for Dysplasia, but negative fro HPV. But in the same breath was told it is caused by HPV ..can someone answer for me how that is possible? I asked my Dr. but she was unsure.
Re: Cervical Dysplasia QuestionI also was told the exact same thing as you were. I am having cryosurgery on April 1St to freeze the abnormal cells. Then go back for a pap in a few months. I am scared to death. I have been ready articals on cervical cancer. I don't think and doctor can tell us exactley what this is.
Re: Cervical Dysplasia QuestionThank God someone finally replied I was starting to think that I was alone in this situation. I was reading online that if you're on birthcontrol that can also cause displaysia. I've been on the pill for 2 years now and am wondering if this could possibly be the cause.
Re: Cervical Dysplasia QuestionYes I also am on birthcontrol for over 15 years. I am 43 years old. I will be better able to let you know a litle more on April 1st after my cryosurgery because I have a lot of questions for my doctor after coming to this web site. Thank you for your reply. Julie
Re: Cervical Dysplasia QuestionI just got a call back from my gyno's office and the nurse told me that it was a polyp, they removed it and I have to go back in September for a follow up pap. Please keep me informed on how everything goes with you.
Re: Cervical Dysplasia QuestionI was told something very similar, today actually and luckily my mom is a N.P. so i have been able to find and understand a lot of information about this. To my understanding what the Doctor was telling you was that one of the most common causes of dysplasia is infact HPV. Do you have a history of a sexually transmitted disease or genital warts? Many times an un-treated STD can cause abnormal cells. This doesn't mean it is the cause there are several other factors that can also cause like you mentioned birth control because it messes with the metabolism of the folic acid. I think your Doc was probably just metioning HPV because he/she didnt want to rule anything out. Hope this helps a little but i'am still un-sure of many things myself!
