Cervical dysplasia

Post a new topicby confused08 on Tue Sep 25, 2007 9:00 pm

I am 21 years old and my doctor told me I have abnormal cells on my cervix. He did a colposcopy and biopsy and the waiting for answers is killing me! I had a normal pap smear last year, do u think it is severe within in a year. Im in my last year of college and I cant believe that this is happening to me. I always used protection and only had one partner. Im so hurt and angry at my partner and I have ended that relationship. I just need to vent but im am scared that it might be cancer.

Try to stay positive, one of the hardest things is waiting on the results. If you don't take care of yourself you will make matters worse.
I too am in the same situation, I haven't been able to grasp or let my feelings out about it yet. There will be a time for that. Now I just have to stay positive. I am a single mother of four children and it is easy for kids to tell when something is wrong. I was diagnosed with CIN III and had a LEEP to remove the abnormal cells, now it is just a waiting game.
The way that you handle things has to be with a positive attitude. What you need to do is arm yourself with as much knowledge about this as possible, then when you go to the doctors sit down and talk with them and ask as much as you can. This is your body you need to know what choices you have in regards to your treatment.
Take care and stay positive

Thank you. I am starting to relax now. But monday is when I find out what the next step is. I've been searching on the internet and I have found alot of information. I didnt know so many women were in my same predicament. God bless you and I know He will take care of you. Thanks again for the advice.

Just to update anyone who cares. Um I got the results back on monday. The doctor said that the biopsy didn't show any cancer or any form of dysplasia. Im confused? My doctor said that the abnormal cells might be inside my cervix. Ive been researching online and I discovered that the a type of cervical cancer, adenocarcinoma, is common in young women and mostly found inside the cervix. Should I ask my doctor to do a cone biopsy to make sure that the cancer is not inside my cervix or should I just follow up with him in 3 months?

If your doctor is recommending 3 month follow up then that would be the way to go since they are basing the recommendation on your exam and history which they have first hand knowledge of, good luck

I hope that you didn't break up with your boyfriend due to this. Dysplasia does not mean that he is a bad person orthat he cheated on you.

Also, only one third of the HPV strains are std related so it doesn't necessarily means he's 'dirty.'
