doctor is making me wait 4 months for colposcopyHi everyone,
Early this April i was diagnosed with sever dysplasia, my doctor told me that it was not cancerous but pre cancerous and that i would have to go for a colposcopy. Two weeks after that day, i got a phone call from the local cancer clinic informing me that i was on a high priority list and that my appointment for this proceedure would be on July 28. Naturally i panicked, if i was on the high priority list then why was i being made to wait until July? Needless to say, since then ive been battleing major personal demons...am i going to die...will this dysplasia turn into invasive cancer between now and the colposcopy.....will i live to see my son get married....will i be able to have more children...and so on and so on. Basically is there anyone out there that has been made to wait quite a long time from diagnosis to colposcopy? if so how did you handle it and what was the out come? im very very very scared. Im only 27 years old and havent had a whole lot of support. Thank you so much for those of you who have read my posting and share your stories with me. Sarah
Re: doctor is making me wait 4 months for colposcopyHi Sarah,
I recently was diagnosed with HPV and an abnormal pap smear. When the doctor called me after my pap, which was about 4 days, he informed me that I had HPV and wanted me to come in to do a Colposcopy. (or however you spell it). I had that done two days after him calling me. If I were you, I would not wait. See if you can get into another OB/Gyn. This is scary stuff and the longer you wait, the more chance of it growing into cancer can happen. My doctor got me in right away and I have Severe Dysplasia. You need to know whether or not you need to get rid of those lessions. I did and i just received my LEEP procedure last Tuesday. Good Luck!
Re: doctor is making me wait 4 months for colposcopyhi "signthe80s"
thank you for your post. I guess this is the main difference between the american and canadian helath care systems. Im guessing from your post that you had your colposcopy in the states because every single canadian ive spoken with has had to wait up to 6 months for the colposcopy alone and every american ive chatted with has had the colposcopy done with in the week of their diagnosis! Im canadian so this is really scary stuff for me because i have severe dysplasia and have to wait so bloody long for just the colposcopy!. Im taking your advice and have decided to find another place to have my colposcopy done (hopefully there is one) and if that cant happen then im going to hound the ob/gyn's office until i can get in. your advice is really appreciated! thanks and take care!
Re: doctor is making me wait 4 months for colposcopyGood luck! Yes, I live in Chicago, Illinois. Just remember it's your body and your health. Take care of yourself! I hope you get an appointment sooner than later! I will say a little prayer for you.
Re: doctor is making me wait 4 months for colposcopyA little painful. I did not have a good experience. For what was suppose to take ten to fifteen minutes ended up taking an hour. After removing the lessions, I started bleeding and he had a hard time cauderizing the wound. It took longer than normal and the shot of anesthic did not take effect so I felt everything. I was in pain. It feels like getting a tatoo. It's bearable. Just make sure they shoot you with numbness first. You will feel weird for about two days. I had cramping (not as much as a period). You feel a scab for a day or two or whenever you pass it. I am healing fast so but I am having quite a bit of discharge and weird smells and black coffee grinds coming out of me. Not bad though, but I do have to wear a pad everyday. I went to school the next day after having mine done so not as bad as some people make it out to be.
