Mild dysplasia questions

Post a new topicby sarahb on Mon Mar 30, 2009 12:34 pm

I had a pap smear done about 2 weeks ago and the results came back that I was positive for HPV with mild dysplasia. I have to go back in for a colposcopy and biopsy. I'm really scared and confused and I have a couple questions:

1. Is there any chance that a biopsy could reveal that the dysplasia is more serious than mild or is the results from the pap smear right?

2. If it is mild dysplasia, will I have to get the LEEP procedure or is that unnecessary for mild dysplasia?

I would really appreciate any help, thanks!

Hi,
I was diagnosed with mild dysplasia through a pap about a month ago. I just had a colposcopy with biopsy and the result confirmed the pap diagnosis. My doctor has since told me to come in in 6 months for another pap. He says mild dysplasia usually corrects itself on its own as the immune system takes care of it. I think the LEEP proceedure is usually done with moderate to severe dysplasia. The colposcopy with a biopsy will confirm the results of the pap or detect more severe dysplasia. But I think it is pretty safe to say you will probably just get a confirmation of the mild dysplasia

I hope you get to feeling less scared. I know the news isn't fantastic, but it could have been worse.
