Nervous About ColposcopyI am 21 years old and I have had abnormal papsmears since i was 17. I have finally persuaded my gynecologist to do a colposcopy since he hasnt been able to tell me anything conclusive as to why I am still having abnormal paps. Im nervous about getting the procedure done but I am hoping it can help answer my questions. Im even more nervous because my last pap in May was EXTREMELY painful and my gyno asked if I have ever bled during the an exam which has never happened. And when my doctor called with my results he said that my cells were worse then my last pap. And I have been tested for HPV but it was negative I just cant seem to understand why its not getting better.
Re: Nervous About ColposcopyI had one done 2 weeks ago and it's not bad at all, I didn't think so I was very scared but it ended not being bad at all, I was just very cramy for a few days and had bleeding. But Now I'm scared cause mine came back as me having Severe Dysplasia so now I have to be but to sleep for the Cone Biopsy.
So don't be scared it's not bad. Good Luck!!
Re: Nervous About ColposcopyFirst, good for you for requesting a colposcopy. It's odd that you've been having abnormal paps for such a long time, and your doctor didn't recommend the procedure. I had never had an abnormal pap in seven years until now, and my doctor insisted I have a colposcopy. The whole procedure only took about 15 minutes, and it wasn't bad at all. I took 800mg of Ibuprofen about an hour before hand, which helped a lot. The speculum was a little uncomfortable, mainly because it has to be opened wider than for a pap. I felt a slight discomfort when she swabbed the inside of my cervix, but it was an odd feeling, not a localized pain. And I didn't even feel it when she took two biopsies. I haven't had any bleeding or cramping, but I just had the procedure done this afternoon, so that may come later. My doctor did say that whether or not you have any pain or cramping may depend on how your periods are. I never get menstrual cramps, so it makes sense I didn't cramp up during the colposcopy. I hope this helps. Best wishes.
Re: Nervous About ColposcopyI am 54 and I have to have one also .. I have Severe Dysplasia.I do not really understand how the Pap Smear can say one thing and yet they have to follow up with a coloscopy to confirm what the pap smear says then they have to do treatment for what ever they find .. Seems like a lot of steps
to have to go through ... The Doctors also say it slow progression yet they want to move fast ... it is so confushing ... I was told that this is something some one my age usually goes through ... But I see that a whole lot of women of all ages are going through this more than I ever thought... I do not think enough study has really gone into this issue ....
Re: Nervous About ColposcopyHello Jazzy, I also have servere Dysplasia and I had the Coloscopy and with that I need to get the Cone Biospy done. If you don't mind me asking how did your's turn out? The reason I'm scared is cause my Doctor's office messed up and didn't tell me for a yr, and now I'm afraid of how far my went. Lots of luck to you.
