Odd questionI was diagnosed with moderate to severe dysplasia, and I am having a LEEP procedure done March 24th. After this, my doctors say I should be clear of any further problems. My question is...my husband and I use a variety of sex toys. Does anyone know if all of those should be replaced after the procedure, to reduce risk of reinfection? Our thought was something like a dildo should be replaced, because it pentetrates, but what about vibrators that never come near the cervix?
Any information is very much appreciated!! ~Aziza
Re: Odd questionhello!
well, the leep procedure does not remove the virus, just the atipic cels that form the tisue that is the dyspalzia! so u still have the HPV infection ,just the afected tisue removed! so ,i think is allwright just to wash well with soap the toys and desinfect before every use, i am guessing is what u usualy do!!! i hope u feel good after the leep, lots of helth i wish to u!
Re: Odd questionHi Aziza,
Hope all is well. I think you said you were getting the LEEP done early April- good luck! Also, as for the sex toy question, I have heard that HPV affects the entire gential area not just inside. I am prone to being paranoid so I probably would get new toys, but it is probably safe to wash them really well (the virus can only survive for so long away from the body-is what I'm thinking) ~Nicole
Re: Odd questionMy LEEP is next Tuesday...definatly starting to get twitchy!! I just hope they can get everything in one shot, and not have to have it done more than once....
So far that sounds like what everyone is saying, if we clean them really well, we shouldn't have a problem...they do get cleaned after each use....guess I'm just worried about potential problems! I'll try and find a way to ask my doctor at my appointment.....without dying from embarassement! :) Thanks for the advice everyone!!! ~Aziza
Re: Odd questionAziza-
I think the best thing to remember is that, more than likely, your doctor has been doing this for YEARS, so there probably isn't much that you could ask him or her that they have not heard before. I also find it difficult to ask the "embarassing" or "ood" questions but I just try to remind myself that "it's nothing they probably havent heard before," and jump right into asking. Best of luck and health to you!
Re: Odd questionWell, my husband had an appointment with my regular doctor shortly after my LEEP surgery, which went fine by the way!!
We managed to find a way to ask, and she said as long as you wash them with soap and water, there's nothing to worry about, the virus can't live for long outside the body. The odd thing was that the doctor who did my procedure told us to use protection....my husband and I have been together for 3 years, as my doctor put it, our fluids are 'well comingled'. Asked my regular doctor about that as well, and her jaw about hit the floor! She said that's good advice for new partners, since while it doesn't absolutly protect against HPV, it's better than nothing...but for partners that have been together for a while....no point! I hope this helps someone further down the line!! ~Aziza
Re: Odd questionAziza-
I am very glad that your LEEP went well. I just got home from getting biopsy results. Was diagnosed with CIN 1, which is essentially mild dysplasia from what I understand and the doctor and I have choosen to take a wait and see attitude since 70% of cases resolve themselves. So let the rounds of pap smears begin! *L* I agree with the condom thing between a married (or monogamous) couple. To me, it would kind of be like shutting the barn door AFTER the horse got out. The soap and water is a helpful tip though. I believe most people do this already just to keep things nice and clean but good to know that it actually does kill the virus.
