questionsI just found out i had this and was so confused at the doctors office that i didnt get to ask him a lot of stuff....could this mild condition turn into gential warts, should me and my boyfriend never have unprotected sex again, is he at risk of anything or the next girl he may date, Im really confused!
Re: questionsIf the dysplasia is due to HPV depending on the strain it may or may not develop into warts and it could be years or never. If you and your boyfriend have had unprotected sex then he has been exposed. Condoms are not a guarantee to prevent exposure either. Most cases your body will eventually suppress the virus and paps will be normal again. If you don't know HPV status it may be because Drs don't commonly test under 30 because of the fact the virus is so common and it is quickly suppressed by the body. It's over 30 when the virus persists instead of being suppressed that the potential for precancerous dysplasia increases. Hope this helps.
Re: questionsI have questions too. So is the HPV virus not the only way you can develop dysplasia? My doctor didn't really explain to me how I got it only that it could lead to cancer if left untreated. Is the HPV virus something I could have contracted when I was younger and nothing showed up until now? I'm 36 and have been with the same person fo 14 years so I'm just trying to understand how this works. I've already had the coloscopy and the cells came back worse than the last time and I'm scheduled for the leep procedure next week.
Re: questionsI am pretty certain that I got the virus around the age of 20, I had an abnormal the following year, a colposcopy that showed mild dysplasia, then my next pap was back to normal. But they didn't test for HPV then. Now I am 34 and I had out of the blue another abnormal pap w/positive HPV even after being with the same person for 10 years. The doctor told me if your body had it & suppressed the virus later on in instances of stress, or illness you can have it resurface. Two years ago I was put on medications to suppress my immune system for Crohn's disease and the HPV is able to pop back up. So likely you have had HPV suppressed and it found an opportunity to reactivate. HPV can lead to cancer, but with close watch and regular screening not likely. Not all paps with mild dysplasia are from HPV I hope that I have helped. Take care.
Re: questionsThank you for the information. I'm 36 and I've never had had an abnormal pap so that's why was throw for a loop. My doctor has not even mentioned testing me for HPV or even mentioned it at all for that matter. I guess I will be asking some other questions the next time I see him. Maybe mine wasn't caused by HPV but I'd like to know for sure.
