Scared To Death That My Doctor Never Told Me.....

Post a new topicby paullisa on Tue Oct 23, 2007 4:30 pm

I am a 32yr old, I have 3 Children and I am Married. I go every year for a Pap and they tell you that If it's abnormal they will contact you. Well in my case they never did and the only way I did find out a YEAR later was I went in cause I never got my period and I am regular every month and this month for so reason I wasn't, So they check me to see if I was pregnant and that was negative so they perceded to ask me If I went for a "Colopscopy" Which I was like was is that and they tell me that it came back for High Risk HPV and abnormal cells. So right away I'm thinking my husband is cheating and the Doctor tells me you can get it at 15 and It not show up for years. A year ago when I got this done I had insurance but I lost my job they moved so in the mean time I lost my insurance and cause they know they have a Law suit they paid for the biospy and then that came back that I have severe dysplasia and know they say I can wait until my insurance kicks in, In December. I am so sick to my stomach as to what they are going to find since they made me wait for so long. I can't sleep, ate, nothing. I hope someone has some good answers for me as to what to think or do.

I know how you are feeling. When I had my first abnormal pap 5 years ago it was under the same circumstances. A year went by and then didn't tell me. My dysplasia has been slow to show itself, then resolved somewhat, came back, and is now back to ASCUS again. So again in November with my next pap we shall see. It is very scary when this first starts....and each pap puts a lump in your throat until you know what you are dealing with. My best advice is to take a big deep breath... how long ago did your colposcopy come back with severe dysplasia? Are you suing them for not giving you your abnormal results? Someone really dropped the ball on that one! I hope you have switched doctors.

Remember that even severe dysplasia is treatable with minimal invasive procedures. Education empowers us. Do all the research you can and that will lessen your fears. And keep in mind that it usually takes a very long time for dysplasia to really turn on you. I know when this is new it is so very scary. I know it sucks to have to wait. Only you know what your finances would handle to pay out of your pocket. May sound silly but in the meantime make sure you are eating well, exercising, and giving lots of hugs and love to your little ones....mine always helped calm me. :)
Good luck. If you would like to talk further I would be happy to.
