allergic reaction to 5-fluorouracil

My mor has colorectal cancer successfully operated on. It had also apped in local lymph nodes were also removed. She recently started a clinical trial in xeloda after 9 days ended up in hospital requiring pnteral support. She returned home after six weeks is now back in hospital because pain in her bowel is unmanageable. Is re any inmation on recovery process after reaction to 5-FU?

There is no set time limit on how long before someone recovers from the side effects of therapy. It sounds as if your mother got extremely ill and this would portend a longer recovery period. Thank you for using oncologychannel and please write back if other questions should arise. Good luck.
