carcinoid cancer of the small bowel

is it common to just do sursury and nothing else for this type? I had it and the did a small bowel resection and now it is a sit and wait thing.I want more than this i want to make sure it won't ever come back. what do i do

There is no data to suggest that anything other than complete removal is the appropriate management for small bowel carcinoid. Try to regain your life and not to worry to much about the disease coming back. Thank you for using oncologychannel and good luck.

Make sure your doctor continues to monitor you and that you have regular lab work done -- urine 5HIAA test, chromogranin A and serotonin. My mother had a resection in 1996 and no follow-up. In 1998 she was diagnosed with mets to the liver and just last month they found something in her lung. Log onto carcinoid.org to learn more. Better yet, get an appt with Dr. Richard Warner of the Carcinoid Foundation at that web site.
