Chemotherapy and InfertilityHi, I was diagnosed with Acute Promylecyctic Leukemia (APL) in 11/95 and have been in remission to date.
My protocol was ARA-C, Danarubicin,ATRA (Vesanoid) and 4 high dose consolidations that followed through 7/96. I was 32 at the time of diagnosis and have been trying to conceive for the past 4 years with/without infertility treatments and have had negative results to date. My question is: did the chemotherapy that was administered during the cancer cause for me to have infertility and damage egg quality for me to achieve a pregnancy? Should I give up hope trying to conceive using my own eggs? Is donor egg the route I need to pursue? Any input/information you can provide me would be so helpful and very much appreciated. I await your response. Thank you for your time and assistance.

Re: Re: Chemotherapy and InfertilityUnfortunately the treatment of acute leukemia uses drugs which have a high
propensity to cause infertility. Additionally, the older you are the less likely you are to maintain fertility after chemotherapy administration. Thank you for using oncologychannel and good luck.
