pain after chemo and radiotherapy

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Dec 31, 2001 1:45 pm

A close relative in South America had chemo and radiotherapy about 2 weeks ago, and is currently countinuing with the radiotherapy treatment. As a side effect, he has developed a burn like condition in the external anal area. I just have been told that he screams and and cries from the pain that this condition is causing him, yet his doctor has not giving him any medication to relief this pain or itching. Could you please tell me what medication could help him. If I know the name and medical compound, I could tell him to ask his doctor about it and maybe he can prescribe it for him. Please let me know as soon as possible;
Thanks, Bris

It sounds as if he is developing a dermatitis from the radiation therapy. I
would suggest using Sitz baths and narcotic analgesia (vicodan, ms contin,
oxycontin, percocet). I would also suggest speaking with the radiation
oncologist to ask what topical ointments may be useful. Thank you for using
oncologychannel and good luck.
