Side effect of chemo?

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 03, 2001 12:12 pm

I have a friend who's 12 y.o. bror is being treated chemo an unidentifiable blood disorder. Late last night, he showed signs of CHF put on a vent became restless combative. Dr's at CHOP were taking him a CT scan of head to see if a head bleed developed. He just received his first round of chemo yesterday along prednisone. Is it "normal" to have a head bleed as a result of chemo?

No it is not normal to have a head bleed for any reason. However if a bleed has developed it is most likely not due to the chemotherapy if he has received it within 1-2 days. The reason is that it takes the chemotherapy 7-10 days to have a recognizable effect on the bone marrow with decreasing blood counts. Thank you for using oncologychannel and good luck.
