My plate runneth over

Post a new topicby livingwith on Fri Aug 17, 2007 3:42 pm

My husband has Parkinsons, heart problems, osteoporosis depression with psychosis and now, maybe cancer. You think this is enough —from the stress I became diabetic, and am handicapped with arthritis and the worst thing is my 14 month only grandchild is moving away! Now I am suffering from depression! My Dr. has prescribed Celexa and I have only taken it for 3 days. I knew I was in distress and asked my Dr. for help....Read the full article

I really feel for you. Your depression was an inevitable result of these terrible circumstances. Just as you never imagined, when things were going well, that things could never get so bad, so now it's probably impossible to imagine anything ever being good again when such tragedies have occurred. But life can get unexpectedly better just as it did get unexpectedly bad.

Maybe you can even do things to make things better. Research your diabetes and act on every piece of information as if your life depends on it: it does. Walk, even around the house, for as much of every day as you can. If you are healthier (yes, vegies and exercise) you will look after others better.

I have been caring for my husband with blood cancer for nearly 9 months now. Because of his low immune system, I am nearly always alone / alone with him, at home. He suffers; I suffer watching. I fear, I fret, I am terrified of making mistakes.
The medication for depression (zoloft) has helped me take care of him. I lost a lot of weight when he was initially diagnosed because I was in terror and horror. Now, I also face over eating and inactivity, as you do, and all the fearful consequences of that. I give you the advice I need to follow myself. And I say a prayer for you.
