major depressive disorder re-occurring

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri Apr 18, 2003 3:02 pm

My wife was diagnosed with major depressive disorder re-occurring about 5 years ago.

She is still taking medication and is seeing a Phychiatrist. She's doing better these days.

Question:
With major depressive disorder re-occurring ,does this mean that she will have this forever? and what causes these re-occurances?

Let me tell you, it's hard for the person who is depressed, but is especially hard for the partner to cope with. And I agree with statistics that this is hard on a relationship but I love her very much and will sticking with her for a long time.

I have lived with major depressive disorder for over a decade. My spouse was very supportive although we had our rough moments. Major depressive disorder re-occurring means that is has not stablized yet and gone into remission. No, it doesn't last forever with medications, mine lasted about 18 months initially, but most people have it for about 8 months.

Get her to eat a lot of salmon or fish oil and get a massage or jacuzzi with her. Take half hour walks in the woods everyday and get out into the sun. Take her to the psychiatrist and if she wants to she should see a therapist. I saw a therapist for about 2 years, but haven't felt a need to do so for the last 13 years, just the shrink for my meds.
