Thank you for participating in the forum. Sorry to hear about your problems with depression. There is physician-developed and monitored information regarding different medications and treatments for depression on this website at the following links:

I hope this information is helpful. Physicians who monitor these forums respond to some posts but not to all, so please continue to post in the forum as you learn additional information.

I wish you the very best.

Hi,
10 years is a long time with no increase or a change.I am too on a antidepressant called Effexor XR.
I have been on this for 10 years as well.I have been learning alot lately about my meds and wanted to share this with you.I wanted to let you know that what ever you decide to go on do your research and ask questions about the drug your going on.As I said I am on Effexor XR and started this drug with the advice of my doctor. For years I have been having side effects and did not know it was from the Effexor. The withdrawal from Effexor is HELL. I have been building a tolerance to this drug and kept needing more for it to work the same.(As you would with any antidepressant)
I am now about to try and come off it and was told by my New docter it is as addictive as cocaine.
It affects the same part of your Brain as Effexor does. Not Pleasant!
I am so mad because I am addicted to this drug that is hell to come off of and I want as many people to know about Effexor XR as I can.So all I am saying is before you take anything new check it out.Ask questions and do some investgating on your own through the internet.Docters do not know everything.Through other issues as well as the Effexor I am learning this the hard way.I am not one to tell anyone they do not need antidepressants.I have been on them my whole life.It is a sickness like any other sickness. But some of the prescriptions out there make you feel worse than you already do.Through a bit of time and good communication with your docter you will find the right drug to treat your depression and also finding good tips for depression ans moods works wonders as well.
Wish you the Best!....Michelle

I am on Cymbalta. My doctor started me off with 30mg I am now on 60mg. I never felt better for I didn't know for years that I was even depressed because my mind is so strong I can put on a front of happiness in a second. I thought I just had to get grown and move out on my own to be happy. I have been on several antidepressants including the one you are on. I didn't like how it made me feel so I told my doctor and he changed me without a problem. I didn't want to feel unlike I was a custom to feeling. Cymbalta stopped the secret crying I was doing but I still don't sleep at night even with the sleeping pills. My best conversation is with myself by myself. I don't go outside often I can go places if someone go with me. I don't have friends. But I love my Cymbalta. Hope you find something to work for you.

Hi to Everyone discussing this topic. I've just signed up for the forum. I have recurring major depressive disorder, and like Mylestone, I've been hiding at home, immobile for the last year. I've tried many drugs and have found that SSRIs made me too anxious, and other, older drugs such as imiprimine do not remain effective indefinitely. Bottomline, I don't like anti-depressants and question their value and safety. But, then there are the days of crying and wanting to die, so what to do? I'm writing in to ask about Mama Angel's new drug, Cymbalta. I have heard good things about this drug. Has anyone else tried it, and, if so, what side effects did you experience and did Cymbalta lift your depression? To Mylestone, you are not alone. I think you and I both need to find a skilled psychco-pharmacologist who is patient (this is big as some Drs. get annoyed if you don't get better fast), and someone who is experienced with the drug cocktail approach. Best to all fellow sufferers of depression. It is a lousy disease that gets little understanding from those who do not experience it. I'm hoping this forum will help me feel more connected to people, less lonely..............Hollis M.

Thank you Snapshot68 and welcome to you as well. That is an interesting sounding drug that I have not heard of. I'm wondering if it's one of the anti-seizure drugs they are giving for mood disorders; I will definitely research it online. I didn't think to share this yesterday, but, for those of us suffering from anxiety in addition to depression and whose physicians will not prescribe tranquilzing drugs like xanax, clonapin, etc., I have had excellent results with neurontin, technically an anti-seizure drug. Doctors love it because apparently it's extremely safe. A psych. prescribed this for me during a hospitalization and told me that people either love it or hate it, meaning, of course, how your body reacts. For me, at first I feel a little sleepy when I take one, then calmer. Also, for the folks here with insomnia, you might just want to try this, and at the very least it may be relaxing. Best to all...........Hollis M.
