radiology and pregnancy

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Apr 15, 2002 1:58 pm

For the last 2 years I have received x-rays, CAT Scans and MRIs as follow-up for a benign bone tumor removal surgery (on iliac crest). My husband and I want to start a family. I was wondering about the affects of these tests on ovaries. Also, is there a waiting period after one of these tests before getting pregnant?

To find out your total dose, you would have to find a physicist to review all your x-ray and CT tests. MRI does not involve ionizing radiation. Most radiology departments have physicists under contract and they may be able to help you.
As a general rule, and without knowing just how much testing you had, the amount of radiation should not be harmful to the extent that it should change your plans relative to starting a family. There are no waiting periods that I know of.
