My story of DUB

Post a new topicby livingwith on Thu Mar 26, 2009 11:18 am

Just over two weeks ago I was admitted hospital here in Aberdeen, Scotland with severe heavy vaginal bleeding. It started 5 days after my usual period. I was bleeding very heavily and passing very large clots. I was given 3 internal examinations while I was in hospitla for four days, a CT Scan, an ultrasound and two internal scans. Nothing was found in these tests and everything looked normal. Obviously I had blood taken many times. My hemoglobin on the first night dropped to 73, I blacked...Read the full article

Sorry you are going through this. I don't have this bad of a problem but bad enough to understand how scared you must be and I do understand how extremely heavy bleeding freaks you out. I just experienced a bout and I'm freaked out by it. Let us know how you're doing.

Hi Everyone,

I am 26 years old and I have just been diagnosed with DUB this past August. I went on the Depo- Provera 3 month shot in August of 2008. I only had one shot as I found that I didn't like the side effects of spotting and moodiness. I was so emotional over nothing. I never went back to get the shot and my troubles have started ever since. I didn't experience my first period after the shot until April 26th 2009, and that lasted until May 12th. My next period did not come until July 20th and went off on July 30th. Then the real trouble started. Ever since then I have had a period every other week, which lasts for 7 days at a time. All my blood work and hormone levels were normal, and so where all of the uterine ultrasounds (internal and external). My doc wants me to go on the pill to stop the bleeding but I have found that birth control has caused enough problems as it is. I would really like to know if there are other treatments which may be effective other that prescribed birth control. Right now I am taking prenatal vitamins which are both for those who are trying to get pregnant and women who are pregnant. My period has come again today and I just wanted to know if anybody else was having a similar issue due to medications, birth control etc. I feel great but I just don't know what to do about the bleeding. Also sometimes it can be very odorous and the doctor says that I BV everytime...but I do not understand how I could possibly have BV just when my period comes on and never no other time during the month. The blood is not dark or clotty. Its bright red with the exception of the first day and the last day when it is a rust brown color. I am originally from Bermuda, so climate is not playing a role. I was stressed out for the last 2 months, but I was still eating healthy and going on with my daily life. If you have any suggestions or support I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi all,

My problem isn't nearly as serious of yours, but I do understand just how frightening and debilitating it can be.

I am 30, from London, UK. I was put on Cerazette around 4 months agao. 1st month was no problem, but I then began to spot everyday, for three months - then, without warning, I began to bleed excessiviely - I was passing golf ball sized clots every 30 mins for days. Went to A&E (ER) twice, who gave me Tranexamic Acid, which didn't help. Then went to my own GP who gave me Microgynon 30 - but like you, I hated it - I was very, very low and tearful, and spotted everyday as well. I finished the pack, but have now been off it for 8 days, and am experiencing very odd bleeds - sometimes just spotting, then it will gush for an hour or 2, with small clots. I am desperate just to get my cycle back. My boyfriend has been amazing, very understanding and supportive, but I am so upset that I can't have a sex life, as I am constantly bleeding. I have been told to go back onto the Microgynon to regulate my periods for 3 months, but I can't bear it.

It isn't like I am in pain, but its a constant worry everyday - constant checking to see what has happened in the past hour. It rules your life! I am hoping that now I have stopped all hormones, I may settle over the coming months.

Keep us updated on your situation - I am keeping everything crossed for you.

hi, i have DUB, its depressing me so much and ive tried everything, the last thing the doctor suggested was the implanon implant in my arm, she said i would get very light periods and they may stop all together, so i went for that.
The 1st month was ok, no period, but after that its been terrible, for the last 8 weeks i have been bleeding sometimes light sometimes heavy.
Went back to the doctors she gave me northisterone tablets for 10 days to stop the bleeding, bleeding stopped but after the 10 days started again and continued, then she gave me provera for 21 days, but this didnt stop the bleeding at all, now she has given me Microgynon for 21 days.
Its my 3rd day on Microgynon, the bleeding has not stopped, it has got worse with clots, i feel so low, been for a blood test today to check my iron because i am starting to get numbness and tingling in my arm and hand.
Dont feel good at all, is there no natural remedy for this problem?

Hi there,

I really feel for you - I hope that you find some relief soon. I have read that vitamin B6 can help to regulate hormone levels, but I think, if you are still taking hormonal contraception, that its effect would be negligable.

I would keep plugging away at your doctor to get him to try and solve the issue - I wish the best of luck, I hope you find a solution soon.
