question about endometrial cancer

Post a new topicby leenie43 on Fri Sep 04, 2009 3:12 pm

Hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum, and I have a few questions, hoping someone has had a similar experience. In May 2009, I went in for a reg gyn check-up, I called that morn to say I had my period, ( got it that morn) and had it 2 weeks before, they said to come in, I thought they would say don't come in, due to having my period. I went in, and after the initial exam, my PA, wanted a pelvic ultra sound done, then after that, I had a trans vaginal ultra sound, then an endometrial biospy, then a hystereosonagram, now on the 10th of sep I will have a d&c. My doctor says, nothing is wrong, just a uterine polyop, everything is good. However, I have gained 35 lbs this past yr, have irregular periods, never had that before, weight is mostly in abdominal area, have dull ache in lower right side of abdomen, no discharge, frequent, almost urgent urination, depressed, short tempered, I look 5 months pregnant. I am 43, never had children, started my period at 11 yrs old, never overweight until now. I have had all blood work done, all is good. Why all of the tests? Dr says just to be sure, I feel something is wrong, just a feeling of course, has anyone under gone all of this and received a cancer diagnosis after the D&C? sorry this was long, just wanted to make sure I mentioned every thing I could remember. Thanks for any and all answers, I really appreciate it.

Hi I started to have postmenopausal bleeding in April and for the last 6 months have had ultrasound, endometria biospy, and most recently a hysteroscopy and D&C. Needless to say I had to be agressive with my doctors (internist and gynecologist) to get the series of test and surgery done. Early on in the process they were treating my symptoms as "matter factly." Unfortunately for me I was told on yesterday that Grade 2 cancer cells were found in my uterus lining. Now I am faced with further test and a oncology consultation with a group of medical personnel in this field. I have just spent the last 24 hours crying and surfing the internet to get additional facts as my gynecologist handed me a 2 page printout and gave me a referral card. And so I WAIT....Frightened and Scared...

I am so sorry to here your news. After waiting so long you seem to think "no this is not going to happen to me", but reading on this forum it does to so many women who least expect it, with their symptoms etc.
I feel like i have just been sent home and wait which i have, till the test have been done, but what do they think you are going through whilst you wait?
Did you have alot of post menopause bleeding? I have had the one big bleed which lasted ten days and completely took me off my feet.
I know i carn't say anything to help the way you are feeling but the one thing i will say is be brave like us women are and fight.
Do hope the rest of your test become clearer and take care.

I went through the same thing and yes, after the D&C it was determined that I had endometrial cancer. I immediately had a hysterectomy. First it was Stage I because it appeared it had not gone past my uterus. Stage I is the most curable because once the uterus is gone, no more cancer. However, the test on the fluid around the uterus, the peritoneal fluid, showed cancer cells, which changed it to Stage III. They must have come out through my fallopian tubes because there was no break in the uterus. The following year, tiny tumors appeared in the fluid, on my liver, omentum and diaphragm. I went through severe chemo ( 2-day sessions every month for 7 months) and the subsequent laporoscopic showed the tumors were no more than scar tissue. However, once it is considered "recurrent" you fall into another catagory as far as mortality. I have not been able to get any clear answers because I've been told that there just isn't much information on people that survive a few years after a recurrence. I get CT scan every 6 months (alternating with MRI lately) so that, if it recurs, it is found early enough to zap again.

My philosophy has been - if your uterus is no longer needed and it's causing you problems, and could possibly bring cancer into your life - get it out. - Good luck - Toni
