Thinking of getting Pregnant & EpilepsyHi,
I 29 years old and was diagnosed with epilepsy when i was 18. I had two grand mal seizures and was on tegretol retard for 5 years. I have been seizure free since those two seizures and have been off my medication for 6 years. I have read alot of info about the risks of getting pregnant when you are on anti epileptic drugs but does anyone know if there are any risks if I was to get pregnant, since I am not on any medication and have been seizure free for so long. Any info at all would be great Thanks
Re: Thinking of getting Pregnant & EpilepsyHello. I don't have any answers for you, but our situations are similar! I am 28 years old, had two grand mals when I was 18 and have been seizure free ever since. I have been on dilantin and trileptal and now because of the cost of Trileptal I am back on dilantin; and I was wondering what exactly the risks are for babies whose mothers are taking dilantin, because I too, would love to have a baby! Could anyone help us?
Re: Thinking of getting Pregnant & EpilepsyI know this is nine months later, but I just joined today because of post-partum management and the effects in can have on epileptic women. I, too am 30, have been taking dilantin for 6 years and was seizure free for 4 years. My baby developed fine during the pregnancy. I was taking 400mg, daily. If you were seizure free for 6 years, I would talk to your OB and neurologist about possibly weaning off the medication, (if you have not gotten pregnant yet)
Good luck!
