ED after trauma during sex - now what?

Post a new topicby winkie on Sat Feb 23, 2008 11:08 pm

This is my first post here. I am getting desperate. My appologies in advance for the long post.

Up until December I had never had any erectile issues and could have an erection several times a day as healthy male in their mid to late 30's normally could.

My girlfriend and I were having sex in December and my penis incurred some trauma while she was on top of me. A few days before that my pubic area was sore from her grinding into me (again she was on top). I immediately lost my erection when the trauma occured and thought I would regain my erection strength within a few days.

This has not happend and I am not able to achieve my normal firmness during intercourse. On top of that I have lost my erection when we try to change positions or even move to a different room during foreplay.

I went to the doctor (Boston Medical Group) and he assured me I would be fine. Just to avoid sex for a few weeks. He gave me 10mg of Cialis to take. This helped my confidence for two weeks and I was able to perform when we started having sex again, however still not achieving a 'full' erection like I could pre-trauma.

I figured I would take Cialis for 1 month to ensure I was back to normal however my erection failed a few weeks after that even after I took Cialis. I went back to the doctor and he gave me 20mg of Cialis. Still I am not achieving full erections and having hit or miss episodes with intercourse. I'm not sure what to do now. I am wondering if some blood vessels or nerves could have been damaged and if I will ever regain my firmness. I am not getting full erections in the morning anymore like I was post trauma. What test should I consider getting done?

I feel a sudden loss of libido due to this and it is beginning to affect my psychologically. My girlfriend told me she likes to have sex almost daily but now I am experiencing performance anxiety I feel that I am starting to avoid intimacy which is very unlike me.

My girlfriend has stated that she feels responsible for the trauma and has been supportive of me and has said that she is still experiencing orgasms while having intercourse now. She suggested that we could avoid intercourse and just have oral/manual release for a few weeks if it would help with improving blood flow to my erection.

Is there anyone else who has experienced some penile trauma while the girl was on top? Did your erection go back to normal? I've started researching ED on the internet and I am considering get a blood test to check for low testosterone levels but I find it hard to believe my libido has dried up in 60 days. I still crave being with my girlfriend, it's just that I fear I will not be able to please her like I could before.

I would like to go back to funtioning normally without the use of medication, however if taking meds will facilitate the process then I'm open to suggestions.

Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm really worried and it's preventing me from sleeping at night, concentrating during the day (I am also a healthcare professional) and enjoying my relationship with a wonderful woman.

The added complication is that my dad is a local urologist but I feel too ashamed to tell him what I am going through.

Thank you.

Hi winkie!
I had a more serious (probably) injury during sex with my wife 15 years ago. She was also on top at the time. We injured my penis such that it was severely bruised the next day. It was swollen and bent like an elbow. I hoped that things would be okay after the swelling went down. Things weren't okay. I went to a urologist about a month after the bruising was gone. I went from being reasonably vigorous sexually to being barely able to get it up enough for penetration. Also the sensitivity and sensation was severely reduced.
When I finally made it to a urologist he said that it would have been routine to surgically repair a tear in the inside of my penis, but that I had waited too long. Too bad. I went to some follow up diagnostics where they checked out the degree of damage and offered me some kind of robo-dick contraption to be implanted. I wasn't impressed.
I've not been able to fix this locally. I have looked around for hospitals (like Cornell) that has sufficient expertise to possibly do reconstructive surgery even after this long stretch of time. Apparently there is a very good diagnostic proceedure that you can do there to see what the problem is. I hope that you have more luck than I.
I would urge you to talk to your dad. I'd rather have someone like your dad on my side and suffer the embarrassment of talking about my injury than suffer the injury and keep it to myself. The bad news is (at least from my point of view) that things are only going to either stay as they are now or they'll get worse over time.
For me there is no difference whatsoever if I take drugs or not. If your situation is improved with drugs, then perhaps the damage isn't as severely structural as my problem. Get checked out. Maybe there is a little damage that can be fixed up.

Thank you for your response. Today I received a letter from the urologist office I made an appointment with stating that they need to reschedule my appointment. I have been waiting a very long time and your post makes me so nervous that I will most likely speak to my dad soon. My sex drive is dimished greatly since the injury which happened in December. Although I can still have an erection it takes a lot of mental focus to do so and even then the sensation of having an orgasm is greatly dimished. Also, I can sense my body trying to have an erection (blood flow) in the morning but it does not happen. I am scared to death right now. Thanks again.

Hello Winkie.

I registered to hear from you since its very important for me to hear from someone who as the same symptoms as i, and had the same experience. To me it happened in January and I already went to the urologist who said it was some kind of penis trauma and couldnt find anything relevant in his examination. he gave me Vitamin E and Levitra for a SOS but althought the pain/disconfort is gone now, i did not regain erections, it is hard for me to get one!

Please reply, it is very important to hear from you and know if you're getting better.
Sincerelly hoping to hear from you.

Compliments

Hello Jimmy,

Sorry for the delayed response as this email went to my spam folder.

I also went to the urologist who could not find anything wrong. He asked if my penis had gotten purple in color and very swollen when the trauma happened (which it did not.) He mentioned that as I get older I may detect an increase in the curvature of my penis which can be corrected. This may occur at the site which my penis was bent during the trauma. He said this may occur when I am in my 50's or 60's. He did not find any hard nodule at the trauma site.

He gave me Viagra as an SOS but then suggested that I get a blood test to check my testosterone levels and blood sugar. I did this today and will hear back within 48 hours.

I am still having hit or miss erections which is extremely frustrating. I have taken a half a tablet of Viagra with success but I do not want to be hooked on meds for confidence.

From what I understand Viagra does not last as long as Cialis which can last up to 36 hours. If I take half a tablet of Viagra at night I am getting morning erections as I was before the trauma. My orgasms are still not as powerful though.

I am hoping the Viagra jump starts me. I am axiously waiting to see my blood tests as well as diabetes runs in my family :( This would also affect my erections but I still find it hard to believe that one day I am functioning like a healthy male and the day after trauma everything goes haywire.

How is your condition? Have you seen any improvements?
