Erectile dysfunction (ED and depression

Post a new topicby Nealoren on Fri Oct 09, 2009 3:26 am

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability in the men to achieve the erection and to hold the erection for the sufficient amount of time during the sexual intercourse. About 65% of the men in the world suffer from the erectile dysfunction either temporarily or permanently. Scientists are continuously trying to find out the causes of erectile dysfunction. This time scientists have linked erectile dysfunction with the depression or in simple words, depression as one of the causes of erectile dysfunction. They have claimed that 20% of individuals having depression suffer from the erectile dysfunction. Scientists have concluded depression as the psychological reason of erectile dysfunction

Absolutely. Mood disorders can have a drastic impact on your sex life and, to make matters worse, most antidepressants (e.g. SSRIs) can cause or aggravate ED. Tianeptine (brand name STABLON) seems to be an exception: it is an antidepressant that can actually improve libido.

Do you know any studies/websites on depression and ED?

As crazy as this sounds, my husband's mood issues resolved completely when he quit eating gluten, casein, soy and eggs. His ED improved too. He did not have gastrointestinal issues, just mood. Very odd! The Paleo or Primal diet is a good way to do this. However, if you see good results, you should check with your doctor for celiac testing, just in case.
