Overflow + ED

Post a new topicby prufock on Tue Jun 16, 2009 10:55 am

I posted this a while ago in the UI forum, but got no response. Maybe I'll have better luck here?

Hi all,

About six months ago I began to have erection problems for no apparent reason. The doctor I saw first basically gave me the "it's all in your mind" line and prescribed me some Viagra. Later I saw another doctor who actually made me a referral to a urologist

In the last month or so I've noticed a second problem, which is actually more distressing. Every time I urinate I leak some more urine into my underwear, and it seems to be getting worse. I seem to need to go to the bathroom 3 or 4 times in a row with little in-between time, and each time only a small amount comes out. It's at the point where I can feel dampness in my underwear and sometimes on my pants.

This is really worrying me, as I obsess about whether people can see it or smell it. I don't think it's visible, and I hope the smell isn't strong enough to drift around. It's quite embarrassing, especially at work or out with friends. I've taken to wearing tissue in my underwear to hopefully soak some of it up.

I hate this feeling. I'm only 27, and I feel far too young to be having these sorts of problems. I don't smoke, don't drink, get moderate exercise, have a pretty good diet, I'm not overweight, don't drink much caffeine, I've even got my BP down to normal - all told, I'm generally a healthy guy, except these two things.

I worry that it might be a prostate problem, or diabetes (both my dad and his dad have it). Just the ED itself was bad enough, but with this on top of it... I guess you could say I'm distressed. And it feels like there's no one I can talk to about it.

I haven't told my doctor about the leakage yet, but I'm going to see him in a few days. I'm hoping the urologist will be able to help me, but my appointment is not for another 2 months! Is there something I can do in the meantime? I don't want to be a 27-year-old wearing adult diapers. I never thought I'd have to face this problem, at least not for another 30-40 years.

Thanks

Since I've posted this, things haven't gotten any better. I've been to a urologist, had bloodwork, hormone screen, piss test all done, all came out perfect. No diseases, no infection, hormones normal, BP normal, not diabetic like I was concerned about, only minor prostate swelling (not enough to give me the trouble I've been having).

I have an appointment in a couple days to have a cystoscopy and cystometrogram done. I'm a bit nervous. Any words of encouragement or advice?

Could this be some disorder of the smooth muscle in the genital area? I'm not an expert but I do know that contraction of smooth muscle may lead to erectile dysfunction and overactive bladder. Gene therapy seems to be a promising solution but it is not yet available. I guess only a urologist can help you. Good luck!
