is this temp or should i see a doc

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun May 25, 2003 2:39 pm

i am a 23 y/o male, and till about 20 i did not have any problem having an erection and intercourse up to several times a day. At that age, i began using marijuana somewhat regularly and have noticed a serious side effect of not being able to hold an erection long enough to have intercourse. it should be noted that i can masterbate just fine and have fairly strong erections then. after finding the side effects of pot, i quit using it (short time ago) and other then that i have lead a healty life style which includes regular work outs. I like having sex but it is pretty embarassing when the erection does not last enough. what i want to know is, is this condition temporary provided i stop the pot use or do i have a more serious condition on my hands (in my hand)
thanks for the help

Stop the pot and see what happens. If there are continuing problems, then go see a urologist.

How does the length of time with an erection while masturbating compare with the length while having intercourse? Typically, if you can get an erection and keep it long enough for masturbation, you should be able to keep it long enough for intercourse, provided you have sufficient stimulation and there are no mental issues. In other words, you may be suffering from a performance anxiety rather than some physical factor. Of course, stop using pot, as this certainly decreases libido, and maintin current healthy lifestyle. If things don't improve, then consult a doctor for some basic tests, as loss of sexual ability can be signs of some worrisome issues.

the masturbation times are just fine, actually pretty good as i can get a full erection and ejaculation with no problem ... it is a problem only when i am with a girl. My question is, the mental anxiety is there, i know, but are the effects of pot permanent or they can be gotten rid of by stopping smoking? i will deal with the mental thing, but i really hope i can get rid of the pot effect without having to consult a doc

It does not sound like you are a big time, long term pot smoker, so I doubt the effects will linger much longer. Relax and things will probably be fine but again, if things don't improve, then go see a doctor.
