Fibromyalgia

My mother, who has had fibromyalgia for many years, is experiencing sensations in her hands, which she describes as feeling like she's had them in water too long, or a crumbly, sticky feeling. Trying to move her hands makes it worse. It's driving her crazy, and she can not longer use her hands for much. Had anyone experienced anything similar. She is on occasional shots of prednisone and takes vicodin daily for pain control. She is also highly sensitive to many drugs, and has tried literally hundreds -- most of which have made her deathly ill. She gets bad reactions to most tranquilizers. Can anyone shed light on this?

I haven't heard of it but that doesn't mean it couldn'y happen, you might want to consider arthritis as a cause

My husband says his hands often bother him with weird sensations. I know it is unusual for men to have fibromyalgia or at least rare! He also has sensations other parts of his body!

hand and foot sensations is something that I have found getting worse for me as my Fibro becomes worse. One of the things that I have found to help with the bizarre feelings is cold running water on my hands. It seems to ease pain, swelling and a lot of the sensations for a short period of time. I also have DJD in my one wrist. I have kind of a numb sensation from time to time with my one foot on the top and my one hand goes to sleep easly. I don't know if they are Fibro related but the more it happens the more I think that is the case.

I, too, was having the numbness and tingling, but I was also diagnosed in 1990 with carpal tunnel syndrome in my right hand so advanced that surgery was required, but so minimally in my left hand that I put it on the back burner. Now, it is as bad as the right hand was, with the lightening bolt running up the arm when I reach back, etc. Anyway, I think mine is possibly a mixture of both the FMS and CTS. I saw my rheumatologist two weeks ago and she gave me a cortisone shot and it is much less discomfort. Anyway, maybe a cortisone shot would be of benefit....????

I am curious to know if your mom has been overworking her hands lately. About a year ago I began to have very strong hand sensations - as thought they were not getting enough blood or something. It would literally keep me up for hous at night. I finally was told to wear hand braces to bed at night, the kind you would wear if you had carpal tunnell syndrome. After doing that for a month or so the sensations stopped. I hope this helps you. Good luck and God bless.
