My best friend has had a metal plate in her head since she was seven months old. They replaced it at the appropriate growth periods throughout her life, and now she is thirty-one and is in almost constant pain around the edges of the plate, and a catscan by her neurologist shows a 3/4 inch wide wedge missing on the left side. Nobody mentioned that this was abnormal, so my question is,
Is it normal to have a wedge cut away from a skull plate? And if so, is it also normal that the plate is slightly concave? They still cannot find a cause for her pain, and these things concern me. Thank you for your time.
