Status Migraine?

Post a new topicby storyteller on Mon Sep 10, 2007 4:25 pm

Hello. I am 37 female and never have had history of mirgraines before. On Aug 25 I felt some numbness in my mouth area. I commented to my husband how werid it was and then about 30-60 later I developed an extremely painful headache. One sided, sharp pain, nausea, ear pain, light and sound sensitivity. Since this was a Sat., I just self medicated. I alternated with Tylenol and Mortin at max doses. It made the headache bareable but not go away. I finally got an appt with my doc, she said it could be a migraine but I also had fluid on my ear drum. She gave me Floricet and a steriod for the ear. I didn't take the max allowed dose of the Floricet because I need to be functional during the day. I supplement with Mortrin when needed. The pain would go way down but never completely gone. This past weekend I really had a bad episode. More numbness, increased pain to where I took max dose of Floricet and Mortin, helped me sleep, but again nothing makes the pain go completely away. I went saw different doctor. He gave me Zomig, said I may be rebounding from Floricet. I took ONE of the Zomig and had an increase of head pressure all over my head, not just the effected side. That lasted about 1-2 hours. I took mortin to offset. He is giving me a new med, i can't remember the name. This is day 17 and nothing is working someone have ANY HELP?

You might consider getting a head CT (cat scan) if you haven't had one yet.

Thank you for you reply. Since my neurological exams haven't shown any immediate cause for concern, the doctors have said they don't feel a CT scan is necessary at the moment. I took the latest round of meds last night, Midrin. I took it exactly as it was directed 2 upon getting the script and one every hour after that it doesn't resolve the headache, not to exceed 5 caps in a 24 hr period. I took the entired allow amount. And this has done what all the other meds have, bring the pain down to a 1 and then as long as I don't get active, I am fine. Once I start getting up and moving around, then things start to get worse. I am going to try to stay with the 800 mortins he gave me as well and avoid even taking anymore Midrin, even though I have 5 days supply of the med. The doctor seemed to be concerned that the duration of the headache was due in part to a rebound effect.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks.
