High Cholesterol and Tryglicerides

Post a new topicby kporter007 on Thu Nov 29, 2007 12:26 pm

6 weeks ago my doctor put me on Crestor for a 330 cholesterol level. I just went and got more blood work done, my cholesterol is down to 236, but my Tryglicerides are at 853 (the first test wasn't planned so I had eaten before it, this one I fasted for 12 hours). He is now putting me on Tricor to bring those down.

I am 5'10", weigh 155lbs, I am only 36, so this isn't caused by weight problems. I quit smoking 6 weeks ago and quit drinking at the same time. I have always watched what I eat, so my doctor and I are assuming it is genetic (it does run in my family). The one thing I have added to my diet is dark chocolate, as a reward for not smoking, and I have been drinking more soda.

Can either of those (chocolate or lots of sugar) raise my Tryglicerides so high?

My blood pressure is normal, but should I be doing something to try to prevent clots?

My liver tests are normal. Is there something else I should be doing?

I figure Crestor + Quit Smoking + Quit Drinking + Watching Diet should have helped more. Or do I need to just be more patient?
