history info of hiv

When was aids/hiv first discovered?
Could a body be exumed and tested for aids?
Is there a time limit on how long dead tissue would be able to be tested for hiv?
When do you think hiv began to infect humans?

The hiv epidemic was first recognized in june of 1981. The virus, hiv, was isolated nearly simultaneously in france, san francisco and maryland in late '83, early '83.
We have evidence that people who died of mysterious immune suppressive illnesses in the US as early as the mid 1960's had hiv. Not many but there are some. Beatrice Hahn is a scientist at University of Alabama. She has dated the origional infection of hiv in humans to be sometime between roughly 1930 and 1950 in africa.
In terms of exhuming dead folks and identifying the virus--- I don't have the exact answer. But, I'm sure that viral DNA could be isolated from dead people. This would be a research lab test, not something widely available.
