Decreased sexual desire post hysterectomy

Post a new topicby tynersriver on Sat Dec 13, 2008 1:53 pm

I'm 28 years old and had to have a total abdominal hysterectomy in March of 2008. The goal going into the surgery was to try and keep both of my ovaries but wound up only getting to keep one due to it being severly taken over by cysts - plus I had to have cysts burned off my remaining ovary as well. Now, my sexual desire has decreased dramatically and I'm at a lost of what to do. I'm a new wife whose husband was deployed the first year of our marrige (had to have the surgery while he was gone) and now that he is home, I'm having a hard time getting into the mood. Its putting a strain on me due to the fact that I feel like he thinks I am no longer interested and attracted to him and this is not the case whatsoever. He is trying to be understanding about the whole deal but I can tell its starting to take its toll. Any kind of help, suggestions, etc are very greatly appreciated.

I just recently underwent a total hyst as well but I have quite a few years on you. I would talk with your doctor about HRT, and would also suggest taking a very proactive approach to encouraging your inner sexuality to become reactivated. It helps to get into good physical shape, wear feminine clothes, and do the little things you can to make you feel, dare I say, girlie? I always try to suggest to my guy that women truly do like to feel like women. Though times are tough financially, there are still ways to get dressed and go out. Get rid of the old worn out undies and get some pretty new things. Believe it or not, you can actually find some affordable feminine lingerie at Walmart and KMart. To help you feel like having sex you need to feel sexy first. It also helps to use a good vaginal lubricant in an advance of when you anticipate you might have sex. Again, if you begin to feel moist in your vagina again it will help put you in the mood. If you have an mp3 or ipod put together some playlists with music that makes you feel sexy. If you can get your man on the same page in terms of being sensitive to what can get your motor running, it might help as well. I hope what I've mentioned here will help. All I know is that when I am in fairly good shape, wearing feminine clothes, and having a reason to get a little dressed up from time to time, it really helps increase my libido. At the end of the day, having sex truly is largely a mental activity. Best of luck.
