sex after hysterectomy

Post a new topicby dayspring90 on Fri May 16, 2008 2:25 am

I'm scheduled for a TAH, and I'm wondering...when I recover and am able to enjoy sex with my husband again, what will it be like? Will he need to use a condom (I'm thinking..."where will that stuff go????")? What should I do to prepare for any changes I might experience?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi SB, I recently had an abdominal hysterectomy in October and I had the same question as you. I read that your question was earlier this year and I am wondering if you did have the surgery. If you did have it how are you feeling now and how is having sex. I am presently three weeks post op. and I am experiencing a very high drive for sex but am not engaging in any as I believe to my self that I am not yet healed properly as there is soreness around the incision line and that thing itches like on the inside like crazy. My partner is afraid to be in the same room with me for long periods as he thinks that I might lose my cool. I also experience breast soreness and back pains as with a normal period and when I checked my calender I was right on time with the signs. So I guess that this feeling will continue for a while as the brain probably hasn't missed that part of me as yet. Have you gained a little weight because for no reason I seem to be losing weight rather slowly. After post op. checks with my Dr. they stated that I am healing nicely and that the soreness will go away. It sucks but I am treating it as a bump along the long road to recovery (secretly hoping it's a short one at that).

You kinda sound like me. I'm 4 weeks post op.. and I have a drive and want sex very badly but I'm scared. I don't have any itching just tender around the scaring area. I seen the doctor 2 weeks after surgery and he said I still had a small spot inside that wasn't healed yet. So that's the main reason I'm waiting on sex. Plus my doctor said 6 weeks. So two more.urggg. we can do it girl.. and just think of all the postives!

Good luck
