ovarian cystHi - I am reposting here as it seems no one is responding in the general health forum?
I'm 21 and have been experiencing sharp, localized pain in the lower, right abdomen. Six months ago I had a pelvic ultrasound for an unrelated issue and the nurse mentioned that I had a cyst on my right ovary. The doctor never addressed it so I assumed it was unimportant. I have always had irregular cycles and do not have a period if I am not taking a birth control pill. I recently started taking marvolon again to induce cycles and have noticed the reoccurrence of the pain. I am wondering if the cyst is causing this discomfort, however it is present through my entire cycle. I have also started bleeding before completing the entire cycle of marvelon - your thoughts are appreciated.
Re: ovarian cystThere are many different types and sizes and shapes of cysts. The pain that you are experiencing may be as a result of an endometrioma which is a blood filled cyst caused by endometriosis. If you have pain upon deep penetration you may want to talk to your gyno about doing an exploratory laporoscopy.
This pain may also be related to an appendix issue. And, further, irregular cycles may present as a result of poly cyctic ovarian syndrome or hyperplocatinemia or congenital adrenal hyperplasia, etc. Find a good gyno and get a serious eval. All the best. Dr. Berkley
