I have IC am presently taking following medications, Pyridium, Ditropan Elavil. My concern is Pyridium Ditropan. I know Ditropan is helpful urinary frequency. Is Pyridium also used frequency? If so, will hurt me by stopping me from, or making it hard me to urinate?

Pyridium works as an urinary analgesic, that helps with burning and pain. We most often use it for short term flares and as needed. Why not check with your doctor to see if you can cut it out or down?

If you are having trouble, it could be a combination of the Ditropan and the Pyridium. Yes, bladder spasms are very common in IC...especially if you also have IBS. I couldnt take the Ditropan or Detrol because it made me have to "push" very hard to urinate. That creates a very viscious cycle of spasms. As for the Pyridium, I would ask for Pyridium Plus. It has an antispasmodic in it versus just plain Pyridium. And if you have IBS...you need meds for that too because that can cause your IC to go into the worst flares ever.
