Newly Diagnosed

Post a new topicby Sara9401 on Tue Dec 04, 2007 4:07 am

My urologist loooked inside the bladder after I had no bacteria in my urine but have lots of burning and all the urinary symptoms. Says there is a lot of inflammation and an ulcer. He wants to "zap" the ulcer and do a more thorough exam and biopsy (just in case) under general anesthesia What might I expect after this? How long does it take to recover? I have a long-booked trip coming up right after Christmas, and he has agreed to do the tests when I return in mid-January. Am taking DetrolLA and the yellow dye.
Reading on the internet has REALLY depressed me. Is this where I am headed? Have no PAIN, but lots of horrible burning, frequency, urgency....
Thanks for any information!!

Hello,
I had my cysto done in the hospital as an outpatient. I was there all day, returning home at dinner time.
I too had areas of the bladder zapped, a biopsy and distention of the bladder where they fill it with a fluid.
After the procedure you will be in some discomfort. I was off for several weeks after and could not go back to work.
I had pressure sensation above pelvic bone and on the right side like a balloon was filling with air and had no where to go.
You will need pain killers afterwards and might bleed for couple of days like a menstrual cycle.
The couple of times you urinate will be sore and be prepared for that.
This procedure was painful for me as I have had three kids with difficult deliveries which might have contributed to the pain down there.
You will need to rest for a while and lye in bed.
I am sure you will be fine, if I survived it anyone can. Just do not plan any major events shortly afterwards as you may be sore down there for a while.
Some people recover right away and feel great after a few days.
I am only telling you my experience, just to be prepared in case.
You may not have a severe case of IC and could be in better health than me to begin with.
I am 42 years old and have been in pelvic, abdominal pain for a while now.
Good luck and keep in touch.
