Weight fluctuations with IC?

Post a new topicby _Amanda_ on Mon Sep 10, 2007 10:21 pm

Recently I found out that people with IC may have weight fluctuations. I agree. After I was diagnosed, over the course of 5 months, I gained close to 15 lbs and went up 2 pant sizes (5-9). I've been having to wear a size 11 due to the weight gain being mostly in my thighs, but my waist is still at a size 7!
I don't think my eating habits could have caused this as I eat healthy foods constantly.

Does anyone have answers/thoughts on this? It would be much appreciated.

That is interesting since the classic "generalization" of an IC patient is skinny sometime frightening so. By the way I treat a lot of IC patients and I know that this is not true. Any way I wonder if your fluctuation has to do with depression form dealing with a chronic disease that is often hard for other people to understand. Good luck.

Since my diagnoses I have been doing some mad reading & yet to find the claim of weight fluctuations being a common thread with IC. I would have noticed that one. BUT, I have seen it with a lot of medications. Especially depression meds as the previous poster replied. You might want to read up on the medications you are taking & discuss the gain of weight with your doctor. An increase that great in such a short time seems like something that needs to be addressed.

I personally have shed quite a few pounds since the onset of the disease. Finding out that foods & drinks irritate the condition explains my lack of interest in eating. I really didn't know that was causing the pain, but my body must have made the correlation. I was telling my husband not too long ago that I didn't care where we went to dinner for our anniversary, or if we even had dinner. Food was of no consequence. Mind you I eat daily, but it is when my body demands it. I don't look forward to, or anticipate meals.
