Mammogram

I had a mamogram and a sonogram which showed a palapable node that measured over 1 cm in size in all directions. The radiologist said it had fat in it therefore it was benign. I have never heard of this and everything I have read says you cannot tell what the status of a node is from an x ray. Should I be concerned?

Lymph nodes do have a characteristic appearance on mammograms. The center (hilum) of most nodes contain fat and that makes them have a central area that appears dark on x-rays. They are very common and almost always benign.
