Am 43yrs and have three children. My last baby is 11 all safe delivery no CS. Am a BP patient. After my last baby I had two abortions. After this we decided to have a family planning - the coil. Carried it for 5 years and removed it. After I removed it, i discovered my period started flowing for 2 days instead of the normal 4 to 5 days and even with the 2 days very scanty. I am 47, about to be 48 next month, and I started haviing slight changes when I turned 40. Nothing big but like I would have normal periods for 4 months and then be a few days late and that would repeat for a few years and then the last year I have had periods where I thought I would need a blood transfusion. I'd have to stay home for at least two days because I would stand up and just gush. I started reading books on perimenopause and researching on the internet and apparantly irregular periods of any kind are normal and it takes 6-10 years to go thru it. I would mention it to you doctor like I did just to rule out the scary stuff and hopefully find a solution or at least answers. I put off telling my doctor for months because I figured menopause was right around the corner for me but I spoke up after my husband was diagnosed with colon cancer and thought I really should check things out to make sure. I had a sonogram done and they found endometrious (SP) and now I am scheduled for a hysteroscope and D x C on wednesday. Ironically, my period is a week late again. A good thing with the scope being wednesday but I am being told that the D x C will help the bleeding.
